New Jersey Herald -

WANTAGE  -- A Wantage woman suffered burns on her arms after she attempted to rescue animals from a fire in her barn, officials said.

According to Sussex County Fire Marshal Virgil Rome, the fire broke out at the farm on Route 23 in Wantage at approximately 10:20 a.m. Wednesday. When fire crews arrived the barn was fully involved, Rome said.

The owner of the farm, Joyce Cosh, reported the fire after spotting it from her home, which is on the farm. She was taken for medical treatment for her burns, he said.

Rome said the barn housed a bull -- which died in the fire -- and 60 chickens. As of 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, one chicken had made it out of the barn, Rome said.
