Lawyers Mobilizing As Travel Ban Is Set To Begin

Lawyers are making their way to airports across the country as portions of President Trump's travel ban go into effect tonight.  At least a dozen attorneys are expected to volunteer at JFK Airport in New York where they will give legal assistance to those left in limbo by the new travel restrictions. Lawyers have also reportedly been mobilizing in airports in Seattle and Los Angeles as well.

The travel ban, which was partially reinstated by the Supreme Court, restricts travelers from six majority Muslim nations from entering the U.S. unless they have a "bona fide" family relationship with someone in the U.S. That definition covers spouses, parents, adult daughters or sons, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law and siblings.

The affected countries are Libya, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Somalia and Yemen. The travel ban covers new visa applications but people with existing visas will still be allowed. The high court will consider the constitutionality of the President's executive order in the fall.
