Baltimore Asked Citizens to Not 'Kill Anybody' This Weekend

INJOBaltimore activists against gun violence made a desperate plea to the citizens of their city this weekend: “Nobody kill anybody.” The request came from the group Baltimore Ceasefire, which wishes to decrease gun violence in the city which is one of America's deadliest.

The plea for a murder-free weekend seemed too much to ask of the city, which had 318 of its citizens murdered in 2016.

According to FOX NEWS:

The city made it through Friday with no shootings reported, drawing hope from participants the campaign might see some success. But by Saturday, two men — ages 24 and 37 — were shot and killed in separate incidents just hours apart, according to the Baltimore Sun. Another man, 22, also suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, FOX45 reported.

The Daily Wire notes that the plea to not kill anyone in Baltimore was a difficult one. Baltimore has long been one of the most dangerous cities in the country.

Baltimore has long been the murder capital of the U.S. In 2016, the city of 621,849 had 318 murders — that's 51.1 per 100,000 people, tops on the list. And they're on record pace again, with 208 murders so far this year. Make that 210 with Saturday's murders.

However, the group is not deterred. In a Facebook post on Sunday morning after the shootings, declaring the city should “face this new day being who we truly are.”
