North Korea Fires Another Missile

NKOREA-US-MISSILE-DIPLOMACY

The Japanese Government issued an alert today after North Korea fired an unidentified missile early Friday morning. The missile, launched around 7am local time, reportedly came from Pyongyang's international airport, and flew over Japan before landing in the northern Pacific Ocean.

According to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, the missile traveled around 3,700 kilometers (2,300 miles) and reached a maximum height of 770 kilometers (478 miles). The South Korea Defense Ministry responded to the launch with a test of its own, conducting its own missile exercise according to NBC News.

The launch by North Korea follows the reclusive country's sixth and most test of a nuclear weapon last month. The launch comes only days after the United Nations Security Council issued new sanctions on North Korea for last month's test. While the latest sanctions are not as tough as the U.S. had originally wanted, they are expected to have a significant impact on North Korea.
