'Frasier' Star John Mahoney Dies at 77

John Mahoney, the man best known for playing Kelsey Grammar's dad on the long-running NBC sitcom, "Frasier" died in Chicago on Sunday while in hospice care his manager confirmed to Variety. He was 77 years old. 

Mahoney worked for over 35 years in Hollywood, appearing in several classic films, such as "The American President," and "Say Anything." He was also a notable voice actor, voicing characters in movies like "Antz" and "Atlantis." He also had a number of guest spots on a variety of popular TV shows including "Hot in Cleveland," "The Simpsons" and "3rd Rock From the Sun." 

Mahoney was best known for his work on "Frasier" playing Martin Crane, the cranky father of Seattle psychiatrist Frasier Crane. He won a SAG award, and received two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for his work on the show that ran for 11 seasons. 

Mahoney never married, and had no children.
