Sussex County Recovery Community Center to Host Day of Remembrance and Recovery
NEWTON, N.J. – July 15, 2026 – The Sussex County Recovery Community Center will host a
day of Remembrance and Recovery on Monday, Aug. 31, from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. throughout
downtown Newton. The event will honor the lives lost to substance and alcohol use disorders
and fentanyl poisoning while offering hope and support.
The event will include an art exhibit, a remembrance display, and a closing ceremony.
From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., an art exhibit featuring local artists will be at the Arbor Restaurant, 45
Main Street. At the same time, a remembrance display on the Newton Green, located at Routes
206/94 and Spring Street, will feature photos in memory of the lives lost. The day will conclude
with a closing ceremony on the Newton Green from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The ceremony will
include a candlelight memorial and resources on recovery, mental health, and grief support.

“This event is an opportunity for our community to come together to remember those
who have lost their lives while offering hope to individuals and families still affected by
substance use,” said Marjorie Timmerman, Director of the Sussex County Recovery Community
Center. “It reminds people that support is available, recovery is possible and that our community
stands together in remembrance.”
