Three people are lucky to be alive after the Cessna 172 they were flying experienced a mechanical malfunction and crashed onto a beach in New York. According to NBC New York, an instructor and two teen pilots were on the plane when they were forced to crash land on the sandy beach. After the plane landed upright, high winds flipped it upside down.
The instructor told police that one of the teenagers was piloting the small aircraft when there was a mechanical issue. The instructor took over control of the plane and managed to safely land it on Robert Moses State Park beach on Long Island.
The teenagers were taken to a hospital as a precaution, while the instructor stayed at the scene to speak with investigators.
