Toddler Hospitalized With Severe Blisters From Toy Makeup Kit

A young girl is recovering in the hospital from a severe allergic reaction after using a popular toy makeup kit. Within 24 hours of putting on some makeup from the kit, which her parents bought at a local Family Dollar store, Lydia Cravens developed a rash all over her body and her eyes became “swollen and blistered shut.”

Her parents said they thought the makeup kit was non-toxic and could not believe the severity of their three-year-old daughter's reaction.

Family Dollar reached out to PEOPLE, and said they "re-confirmed that test results showed that no toxic chemicals were found in these make-up kits."

“In 2016, we purchased a supplier’s product matching the photo in social media. In accordance with our procedures, our supplier’s product had been independently tested for toxic chemicals. Upon being made aware of this incident, we re-confirmed that test results showed that no toxic chemicals were found in these make-up kits. We have received no other complaints or claims of allergic reactions related to this product.”

The girl's recovery is going slow, and she has to regularly meet with doctors, but she is in good spirits. Her parents posted an update on Facebook last week thanking people for their thoughts and prayers and that "Lydia is doing great."

I wasn't going to post anymore but after thinking about all the love and support everyone showed my beautiful lydia it wouldn't be right to do that. I also wanna give a very special thank you for all the prayers. He does listen and I truly believe thats how we got thru this. God bless you all and thank you .

Ps. Lydia is doing great we have had big improvements in the last 24 hrs. Still has some itching but the burning is gone. Hives are still on her face and neck but those to are starting to fade. SHE IS SMILING AGAIN.
