Storm downs trees and power lines in northern NJ

A fierce storm moved into Sussex county at about 4:15 yesterday afternoon and did serious damage before tapering off close to 7:15pm.  The New Jersey Herald reports that nearly 50,000 JCP&L customers in Sussex, Warren and Morris counties lost power.  Listeners to WNNJ reported downed trees and power lines in the area.

A bolt of lightning left a hole in the roof of a car dealership in Newton.

JCP&L spokesperson Ron Morano told the Herald that additional crews are headed to our area to assist in restoring power.

Here's the story from the New Jersey Herald.
