Sylvester Stallone is producing a biopic about boxer Jack Johnson, the New Jersey Herald reports today. Johnson was the first African-American heavyweight champion and recently received a posthumous pardon from President Trump.
Stallone says the character of Apollo Creed played by Carl Weathers in "Rocky" was based on Johnson. Stallone also says that MGM pictures will fast-track this new project. (Stallone is currently working on "Creed II.")
I wonder if the Presidential pardon will be the final scene in the film. It certainly is a good bet.
Here is the story from the Herald.
