Are NJ high-school sports programs being scammed?

Many New Jersey high-school sports programs enter into franchising deals with licensing companies who sell t-shirts, hoodies and the like with the school's team name. But New Jersey state officials now say that these schools are only making pennies on the dollar.

According to a story on highschoolsportsnj.com, the licensing deals are complex and difficult to understand. Unauthorized dealers are also making money off team apparel without the knowledge and approval of schools.  "Big-box" retailers and smaller stores are selling unlicensed gear without the consent of the schools.

“It’s the wild, wild west,” Verona athletic director Robert Merkler told the website.
