At 2:18pm today, the Trump administration will send a text message to nearly 200 million cellphones across the U.S.A. This will be a test of the Presidential Alert System.
FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) will actually be sending the message with the headline "Presidential Alert." Phones should make a live tone and have a special vibration. A separate alert on all radio and TV stations will follow at 2:20pm. In the case of a real national emergency, important information would be relayed with this system.
Government officials say the alert should reach nearly 225 million American cellphones, or about 75 percent of all phones.
