President Trump Vows to End Birthright Citizenship

With a week until election day, President Trump has made it clear that he believes he can end birthright citizenship in the United States by way of an executive order.  Many legal scholars claim that the President does not have this authority.  Trump made the claim on Monday while taping an interview for "Axios on HBO."

“We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States,” he says.  To the contrary, a 2010 study from the Center for Immigration Studies showed that 30 countries offer birthright citizenship.  According to the President, White House attorneys are reviewing his proposal.  How quickly the President would act is currently unclear.
