Thirteen Apartments Damaged in Newton Fire

The call came in at 7:16am yesterday morning.  Flames were shooting out of a tenth-floor apartment at 33 Mill Street in Newton.

As reported in today's New Jersey Herald, Apartment 10T was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze.  All residents were eventually evacuated due to the fire and heavy smoke. Eight residents needed to be treated.  All were eventually released.    Thirteen residences remain uninhabitable.

Early results of an investigation conducted by the Newton Police, the Newton Fire Department, the County Fire Marshal and the Sussex County Prosecutor's office say the fire was not suspicious.

The New Jersey Herald has a lengthy story today.
