Franklin Borough Police Chief Eugene McInerney made his final radio call on Thursday afternoon with class and style in a "last call" ceremony.
Chief McInerney returned the salutes of his officers after the Franklin dispatcher read a bio of the Chief's 30 years of service to the community. Bagpipes played as he boarded his car and made his final call.
"Officially off the air ... signing off," was his message.
The department had kept the ceremony a secret from Chief McInerney, but he was bound to suspect something was up when he was asked to bring his dress uniform to work on his final day.
Chief McInerney began his Franklin police career as a patrolman before his promotion to sergeant, then to lieutenant and then to Chief in 2002.
iHeartRadio TriState salutes his service to our community.
And here's a great video that captured it all from CBS2/WLNY:
