If you live in Great Britain and you'd like to buy or adopt a kitten or puppy, you must now go directly through a breeder or an animal welfare shelter. Great Britain has banned the adoption or purchase of a kitten or puppy in traditional pet shops. It's a move intended to curb animal abuse and exploitation. The government said the new ban would "end the terrible welfare conditions found in puppy farming."
The new measure is called "Lucy's Law" in honor of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who was rescued from a puppy farm back in Wales in 2013. The dog had spent most of its life in a cage and was unable to breed. Its hips had fused together due to lack of movement.
