Richard Overton, America's oldest military veteran, passed away yesterday at the age of 112.
Mr. Overton was born in 1906 in Bastrop County, just outside Austin, Texas. He was in his 30s when he joined the army, and was at Pearl Harbor in 1941 right after the surprise attack by Japanese forces. He was a World War II veteran and served in the all-black 1887th Engineer Aviation Battalion from 1942 to 1945.
According to Fox News, he smoked 12 cigars a day, and credits those cigars along with God and whiskey for his longevity. His advice for living a long life? "Keep living, don't die."
