New York State Senator Wants to Break Up New York into Two States

New York State Senator Daphne Jordan has introduced a bill that would study the feasibility of breaking up New York into two separate states. Downstate New York would include the five boroughs of New York City, along with Long Island, and Westchester and Rockland counties. Upstate would be everything north of that. Many folks believe there are huge differences in the interests of upstate and downstate New Yorkers.

The study would be conducted by a team led by state comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

This isn't the first time this idea has been presented. And a similar proposal is under review right now as well.
