"Existential" is the 2019 Word of the Year

Dictionary.com has named "existential" as the 2019 Word of the Year.

The dictionary defines existential two ways: "of or relating to existence" and "of, relating to, or characteristic of philosophical existentialism; concerned with the nature of human existence as determined by the individual's freely made choices."

John Kelly, research director of dictionary.com, says “In our data, it speaks to this sense of grappling with our survival, both literally and figuratively, that defined so much of the discourse.

The word is searched for all over the world, and even Forky, the plastic spork in "Toy Story 4," who deals with existentialism in his own special way.

The video, produced by TIME magazine, further explains "existentialism."
