Today we remember Def Leppard guitarist Steve Clark who we lost 29 years ago (Jan 8, 1991).
Steve Clark died from an overdose brought on by a combination of prescription drugs and alcohol. He was 30 years old. Def Leppard had their most commercially successful years during the Clark-era, but they continue to record are still a very successful touring act. The classic lineup featured Joe Elliot on lead vocals, Rick Savage on bass, Rick Allen on drums, Phil Collen on guitar, Steve Clark on guitar. The 1981 album High 'n' Dry helped define the band's sound with the single "Bringin' On the Heartbreak". Pyromania would follow in 1983 with the lead single "Photograph" and enormous success with the album selling 10 million copies in the U.S. Steve Clark's last album with Def Leppard would be Hysteria which would become the band's best selling album hitting No. 1 on the charts with 12 million copies sold in the U.S. and over 25 million worldwide. The album would feature a string of hit singles including number 1 hit "Love Bites", along with "Hysteria", "Pour Some Sugar on Me", "Armageddon It", "Animal", "Rocket", and "Women".
