Newark Cop Accused of Murdering Wife in Jefferson Rejects 40-year Plea Deal

Justice Scales and books and wooden gavel

A Newark police officer accused of murdering his estranged wife in Jefferson has rejected a plea deal that would have sent him to prison for 40 years. According to the New Jersey Herald, the plea would have required John Formisano to plead guilty to the murder of Christie Solaro-Formisano and the attempted murder of her boyfriend.

The 49-year-old's attorney, Anthony Iacullo, told the newspaper that they're willing to continue plea deal discussions and "will entertain and continue to speak about a reasonable resolution."

Formisano faces up to life in prison if convicted on the charges against him.
