The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, will see 22 athletes from New Jersey representing the United States. The athletes, hailing from various parts of the Garden State, will compete in a range of sports, aiming to bring home gold medals. The opening ceremony, which took place on the river Seine, featured a parade of athletes on around 90 boats, each carrying a national delegation. The procession wound its way through the center of Paris, ending near the Eiffel Tower.

Among the New Jersey athletes is Paxten Aaronson, a 20-year-old soccer player from Medford. Aaronson made his debut on the US Men’s National Team in 2023 and spent his youth career with the Philadelphia Union. Joining him on the soccer field is John Tolkin, a 21-year-old from Chatham. Tolkin joined the New York Red Bulls Academy when he was 13 years old and currently plays for the New York Red Bulls MLS team.

Scottie Scheffler, a professional golfer from Ridgewood, is also competing in the Olympics for the first time. The 28-year-old won the 2022 and 2024 Masters Tournament along with collecting 12 PGA Tour wins. He is currently ranked number one in the world (as of July 2024) and held onto that title since May 2022.

In the swimming category, Jack Alexy from Morristown will be competing in the 100-meter freestyle and be part of the 4×100 men’s relay team. The 21-year-old Delbarton graduate will be joined by Nic Fink, also from Morristown, who is swimming in the Olympics again after his first showing in Tokyo in 2020. The 31-year-old Pingry School graduate finished 5th in the 200m Breaststroke.

The athletes from New Jersey will be part of the more than 10,000 athletes from over 200 countries participating in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
