Northwest New Jersey is bracing for a snowstorm tonight (Friday, December 20) as an Alberta Clipper transforms into a coastal storm. The National Weather Service predicts up to three inches of snow in the region, with heavier precipitation possible in some areas. Southeast of the I-95 corridor, the storm will bring a mix of rain and snow.
According to AccuWeather, the storm's intensity depends on how quickly the clipper's energy transfers to the coastal storm. If the transfer is rapid, significant snowfall and travel disruptions could occur. The National Weather Service warns that localized heavier snowfall amounts, potentially reaching four to five inches, are possible.
The storm will usher in cold temperatures, with overnight lows dropping to the teens or single digits. AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines cautions that gusty winds will make it feel even colder, creating potentially painful conditions for those outdoors.
As the storm progresses, drivers should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility. The cold snap is expected to be short-lived, with warmer temperatures forecasted for next week.
