PATH train fares will increase for the first time in over ten years, starting Sunday (January 12). The fare for a single trip will rise from $2.75 to $3.00. A ten-trip card will increase from $26.00 to $28.50, and a 30-day pass will go from $110.25 to $120.75. This fare hike comes as congestion pricing in New York City is expected to push more commuters to use public transportation.
The PATH system, which serves millions of riders annually from northeastern New Jersey, will also undergo significant changes. The Hoboken station will close for track and station upgrades for about four weeks, beginning Thursday (January 30). During this period, the Port Authority will offer free shuttle bus services from Hoboken to Newport and Exchange Place stations. NJ Transit plans to increase the frequency of the No. 126 line, which runs from Hoboken to the Midtown Bus Terminal. Additional PATH trains will operate between Newport, Exchange Place, 33rd Street, and World Trade Center stops.
Ferry services will be cross-honored and expanded from Hoboken ferry terminals, and NY Waterway will extend crosstown bus services from the Midtown/West 39th Street terminal. Ferry services will run until 10 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton stated, "We recognize that a full station closure is disruptive, but it allows us to fast-track extensive repair work."
