The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, effective from 10:00 a.m. Sunday (January 19) until 1:00 a.m. Monday (January 20). The warning covers Sussex, Warren, Morris, and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey, as well as Carbon, Monroe, and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania.
Heavy snow is expected, with total accumulations ranging from 5 to 8 inches. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are likely to become slick and hazardous, making travel very difficult. Temperatures are predicted to drop into the teens on Sunday night and remain below freezing for several days, potentially leading to persistent icy conditions even after the snow stops.
The storm may also bring strong winds, which could cause power outages due to the weight of snow on tree limbs and power lines. Residents are advised to prepare by securing necessary supplies and avoiding travel if possible. If travel is unavoidable, it is recommended to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of emergencies.
For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511 for updates. The National Weather Service advises caution and preparedness as the storm approaches.
