New Jersey is dealing with a series of winter storms that are bringing ice and snow to the state, affecting travel and school schedules. The first storm began overnight with light snow, transitioning to a wintry mix and rain by Thursday (February 6) afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisories for all counties in New Jersey, warning of hazardous road conditions due to ice accumulation.

According to NJ.com, up to a quarter-inch of ice could accumulate in parts of Hunterdon and Sussex counties, leading to potential power outages. School districts across the state, including those in Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties, have delayed openings due to the icy conditions.

The second storm is expected to bring more ice to northern New Jersey over the weekend, with possible local outages. A third storm could bring snow across the state by the middle of next week. The forecast predicts a snow to icy mix to rain event, with snow accumulation of one to two inches in northern areas before changing to sleet and freezing rain.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution during the morning commute, especially in northern Jersey, where conditions are expected to be most severe. The state Department of Transportation has issued a travel ban for commercial vehicles on several interstate highways to ensure safety.
