Northern New Jersey is experiencing a brief respite from winter storms today (February 7) after the latest system moved out of the tri-state area last night. However, forecasters warn that another storm is on the way, expected to hit during Super Bowl weekend. This new system could bring up to five inches of snow along with a mix of sleet and ice, making driving conditions hazardous.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for several counties, including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union. Forecasters predict two to four inches of snow in northeastern New Jersey, with a light glaze of ice that could make roads, especially bridges and overpasses, slick and dangerous. The storm is expected to start Saturday evening and continue into early Sunday morning.
Chief Meteorologist Lee Goldberg from ABC7NY notes that this storm is trending snowier than the previous one, especially to the north. Snowfall projections range from a coating to two inches south of New York City, two to four inches in the New York City metro area, and four to eight inches north of the city.
Looking ahead, another winter storm is expected to arrive on Tuesday afternoon, bringing moderate to heavy snow, followed by a wintry mix turning to rain on Thursday.
