New Jersey residents should brace for potentially severe weather this Tuesday (May 6) as meteorologists predict heavy rain, strong winds, and possible hail. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for the afternoon and evening, with gusts potentially reaching up to 60 miles per hour. The central and northern parts of the state are at the greatest risk.
Forecasters indicate that thunderstorms could develop anytime between noon and 10 p.m., with a slight risk of severe storms in northwest areas and a marginal risk in northern and central regions. The National Weather Service warns of localized flooding in low-lying areas due to heavy downpours.
Residents in Monmouth and Ocean counties have already experienced severe thunderstorm warnings, with quarter-sized hail and wind damage reported in areas such as Vista Center and Toms River. The weather service advises residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor for protection during the storm.
As the storms pass, scattered showers may linger overnight, with temperatures dropping into the 50s. Conditions are expected to improve on Wednesday, though light rain or a thunderstorm cannot be ruled out. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take precautions to ensure their safety during these weather events.
