Chuck McCann passes away at 83

If you grew up in the New York area in the Sixties, then you probably remember Chuck McCann.   Chuck hosted kids shows on WPIX-Channel 11 and turned a whole generation of kids on to Laurel & Hardy, the Little Rascals and the Three Stooges.  Some of my earliest memories of music and movie came through Chuck's shows.

Chuck McCann passed away yesterday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.  He was 83.

I remember Chuck, Officer Joe Bolton, Captain Jack McCarthy and of course, Soupy Sales.  I watched these people every day when I was growing up.  But I think Chuck McCann appreciated those old black-and-white short films more than those other guys and would talk in length sometimes about Stan and Ollie. Chuck did a great impersonation of Oliver Hardy too.

I currently host a podcast called "Talk to Me with Gary Cee" and I was hoping to get Chuck on the show. I asked Gilbert Gottfried if he know if Chuck lived in the New York area, but Gilbert wasn't sure.   Ah man, when a guy like Chuck McCann passes away, you just have to stop for a moment, think about a more innocent time and remember those great old days.

Here are some videos of Chuck:
