"Guerrilla gardening is the act of gardening on land that the gardeners do not have the legal rights to cultivate, such as abandoned sites, areas that are not being cared for, or private property." (wikipedia)
Your common anarchist takes pride in causing chaos. They blow things up; leave violent messages, cause and participate in violence, etc. I think we have all had quite enough of the unpredictable world we live in. At the risk of sounding like a pussy, I didn't sign up for this. Do I want change? Of course, but I'm not willing to get my head bashed in for it. Who does? And I don't fantasize about killing my supposed enemies, who would? Really, who fantasizes about taking another's life? It makes my brain hurt.
So, instead of joining an activist/hate group and simmering in our own juices, I thought, what if we did something different? What if instead of destroying perfectly good architecture with graffiti, or screaming into people's faces who don't have ears to hear... why not invade with plants? Seed bombs will turn a vacant lot into a garden families can eat from. We live in a society overrun by sprawl. Strip malls stand vacant while a new one goes up down the street. Urban areas are wastelands for healthy food options with grocery stores miles away and only fast food to choose from. Why can't we take it upon ourselves to start planting in these areas? What can they do to you for...oh my, GROWING PLANTS? My current project is called #WildflowersAcrossAmerica in honor of Tom Petty (please see my previous blog) but we can take this bigger. People have tried it, and it does work, we just have to have enough people in on it to have more growing than people can destroy before its harvested. You've heard of Guerilla Warfare, let's unite in the name of the human race for Guerilla Gardening. Imagine what a world like that would look like.
