A Franklin man has pleaded not guilty to killing his wife of 59 years. Joseph Salokas was indicted in September and is facing charges of first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The 79-year-old is accused of shooting his wife, Loretta, in the neck while she was sleeping on June 25 subsequently killing her. Salokas reportedly called 911 after the incident and told police he had shot her because she was "possessed."
According to the New Jersey Herald, Salokas has not been offered a plea pending a possible defense of not guilty by reason of insanity.
His next court appearance is set for February 20.
