Chemicals linked to cancer were found at the alleged dump site on Silver Spruce Drive in Vernon. According to NJ.com, samples taken from Joseph Wallace's property by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection contained unsafe levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs,) polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and the pesticide chemical chlordane.

PCBs are reportedly linked to cancer, chlordane can affect the human nervous system and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention classifies PAHs as probable human carcinogens. The state is now requesting an earlier hearing date based on the test results.

According to NJ.com, Wallace failed to provide documentation about what materials are in the 75-foot tall dirt pile and where they came even though he agreed to do so as part of a consent order.
