The Newton pool will reopen in 2020 after the Town Council approved making repairs and upgrades to the facility. According to the New Jersey Herald, representatives from Suburban Consulting Engineers presented three options on how to proceed and Thorlabs has offered a $50,000 donation to help pay for repairs.

Potential changes discussed in Wednesday's council meeting included applying a new plaster coat, making the pool bottom a nine-foot depth, adding drains to relieve groundwater pressure, adding graduated stair access to make the facility more ADA accessible and adding swim blocks.

According to the New Jersey Herald, Councilman Matt Dickson said “let’s do what we can to get [the pool] open" and then look into other improvements.
